Leaders of the union for employees at Wolf Appliance in Madison say the company is asking for a deep pay cut or their jobs could be moved out of state.

But officials of Sub-Zero/Wolf and Sheet Metal Workers Local 565 told the Wisconsin State Journal on Friday that they hope to resolve the situation without any job losses.

Union business manager Tim Hintze said the union received a letter this week saying they company needed a 20% cut in wages and benefits or jobs would go to Kentucky.

Sub-Zero/Wolf vice president of human resources Chuck Verri would not comment on specifics but confirmed the company is asking to reopen the contract.

That contract was ratified in 2006 and expires in 2015.

Usually I'd think how would it be possible for the employees to lower their wages to be on par with the Chinese.
